今日読んだ論文。

上記の論文は、ローマ史家John F. Matthewsの７０歳の誕生日を記念して編まれた論文集に収められています。論文の章立ては以下の通り。

第三節までは、主に『テオドシウス法典』から読み取れる立法者としてのコンスタンティヌスは法典編纂者の産物であり、その法令もまた同様であること、また『コンスタンティヌスの生涯』におけるコンスタンティヌスもその著者エウセビオスによって都合よく描かれていることが主張されます。四・五節では法典に収められた遺言に関するコンスタンティヌスの法令が検討され、彼の立法がローマ法の伝統に則ったものであることが論じられています。

それにしても、コンスタンティヌスに関する研究の盛況にはすごいものがあります。把握している限りでも、今年中に３冊もコンスタンティヌス関連の著作が出版されるようです。
